The Quote Of The Day

"Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it."
Maya Angelou

For me, the meaning of success is a blue moon because I have to seek for chances. I'm successful at something. However, I'm not successful at something because that could be my weakness or I don't even work it. I think, I'm successful in sports. For example, soccer and baseball. Unfortunately, I'm not successful in English. For example, vocabulary and writing but yet have passion to success at it. I chose this quote because it has some connections with me and it displays me what is success truly mean to me.

Common Elements In Creation Myths

Mark

Homer said that all men have need of the gods, they have to obey the gods and follow because the gods gave men lives. In the ancient times, men believed that their gods created them and so they must respect, honor and obey them.

The creation of man, birth and from a cosmic egg are at the centre of many myths, which is an unusual because their ways of life and beliefs were so different.

A common element in many myths is that the creation of man. For example, in the babylonian and Egypt. Man created by Atum's tear in Egypt myth and man created by bones in Babylonian myth. Even though these myths are from different places and times, there are some kind of connection between them.
In the beginning of many myths, there was nothing. For example in the myth of Egypt and China. The god, Atum was the first being in the Egypt and the god of China, Phanku was also the first being. This shows that people in other countries born in different places and different ideas.
An another element in myth of chinese, the god, Phanku burst out from a cosmic egg. As you can see, gods in each of countries, burst out or born from different places.

Joseph said that myths are clues to the spiritual potentialities of the human life. We can gain a enough of information from the quote and be aware of the human's suffering life in the ancient time.

My Bag

These are the items that represent me. There are a soccer ball, a badminton trophy, a mp3, a math book, a baseball glove, a story book, a candy, a house t-shirt, a flag of Korea and a computer. I included a soccer ball in my picture because my favorite hobby is soccer. Of course, I don’t play with that lilliputian soccer ball. I didn't like to play soccer when I was in Korea but now, it has become my favorite hobby. I won a badminton trophy with my friend, Eric Kang because we were the champs in the badminton activity. It shows we are the best in badminton. As for the Mp3, I have been using it since 2008. I always listen to music when I’m on the way to school and home. I took a picture of the math text book because the subject math, is my favorite subject and most of the time, I get a hundred points so it’s easy for me.
You must be wondering why the glove is also in my picture. This is because it is a precious item in my life. Whenever I put the stinky and wornout glove in my hands, I recall the memories. Once when I was ten, I was a member of the baseball team called, Gangwon. Our team advanced into the finals. In the game, our oppnent needed to score a point desperately to win a trophy. We could not allow them to score that point. If we did, we would lose. Finally, the pitcher pelted the ball for a strike zone but the batsman hit the ball very hard. It was flying to the end of fence. Fortunately, I was in the right place where the ball was going to fall. I caught the ball with my stinky and wornout glove and it was out! We won the finals! I saved my team with my glove. That is why the glove means so much to me.
The story book is called the "Sea of Monsters" and it is the part of the Percy Jackson series. This book was the first book that I enjoyed reading. After that, I began to read more books. As for the candy, I atually got it from close friend who is 8th grade in ISKL. I begged her to buy me a candy so she kindly bought that for me in the United States. I normally do not like sweet things but I like this particular type of candy. Can you see a yellow t-shirt? It is a house t-shirt. It is made in ISKL and the picture on it is an orangutan. I was assigned to this house when I began to study in this school. As you can see from the flag, I’m from Korea. I put this in the picture because I’m very proud of my country and glad that I was born a Korean. Lastly, I took a picture of the computer because I always play computer games and enjoy playing them.
At this time, these items in my bag are very meaningful to me.

My Name

What’s in a name?

William Shakesspeare said, "What's in name, that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet". In Asian culture, the name is important. My Korean name is very unique. My surname is Hwang, it means Yellow in Korean, truthful in Chinese and pure in Japanese. I am in confusion since my name was made. The word "Hwang" flustered my head. Why do I have to be a yellow person? I always resent my parents because I want my surname to be like Kim, Choi or something else that is not unique at all. My first name is Jun Beom, and it is also kind of unique. My surname Hwang is just a dugong because there are only a few people in the entire of the world with surname Hwang. However, I like my first name more than my family name. Jun means handsome, and Beom means that someone who is law-abiding. I hope when I grow up, I'll be exactly like my name-handsome and law-abiding.

I had always wanted to ask my mom questions about surname but I couldn't. I had a weary look, so my mother looked at me and said that she thought that I was a hyena, who lost its prey. How did I get this name? Why didn’t you make my name better? Wasn’t there enough time to really mull over my name? Those questions were hovering in my head. I did not know what to do. Should I ask my parents? If I asked them, would they listen to me and explain to me. Later, I found something sensational about my name. It was the historical story. There was a person whose surname was Hwang and he was a high official in China. The king of China ordered him to go to Japan but instead of going to Japan, he went to Korea and settled there and started the Hwang community. I am a descendant of this great Chinese man.

Although I like my first name better than my last name, I don't really like my first name very much. The name doesn’t suit with me because I am not handsome and I also hate following laws just like I hate cockroach. If I have a chance to change my name, I want to be called by Park Ji Ho because I just like the sound of the name since I was a middle school student. I have no idea why I want to be called Park Ji Ho. Even though I think this way, I respect my parents who gave me my name and adore me.
